Reinecke paddles river polliton inspection voyage
Lieutenant Governor Ed Reinecke led a flotilla of 12 canoes along the American River from Nimbus Dam to Ancil Hoffman Park to inspect pollution outfalls and bank erosion. SARA and the Audubon Society pressed for federal action to guarantee 1500 cubic feet per second flow to curb downstream pollution while noting nutrient discharges deplete oxygen and kill fish. The trip ended with a riverside picnic after one canoe capsized, injuring no one.
