Senate Finance Committee backed a one cent rise in the state gasoline tax to fund earthquake damaged road repairs in Southern California. The plan would fund about 52 million dollars over six months, with quake damage estimated at 49 million across roads and bridges. Walsh noted Washington delays could push repairs months or years, yet pledged the bill would not be withdrawn if federal funding remains uncertain.
