NEW YORK (UPI) A Manhattan Supreme Court jury ordered Dunn, Bradstreet to pay $6,810,000 in damages for deliberate downgrades. US$100,000 goes to Mike Goldgar of Delay Stores Inc. US$4,010,000 to the National Apparel Adjustment Council and US$25 million to the United Star Companies bankruptcy trustee. Goldgar alleged widespread downgrading of him, his firms, and officers amid a 27 state outreach to over 1,000 department stores.
Melvin Belli signaled he would defend Winnie Ruth Judd at the extradition hearing in Contra Costa County. The 61 year old Minnesota native known as the Tiger Woman faces possible return to Arizona over the 1930s murders and dismemberment connected to the trunks shipped to Los Angeles. Judd was arrested in Danville under the name Marian Lane and has claimed another identity. Belli planned to challenge the identity and pursue the extradition case to determine next steps.
Fremont youth Gary L Sweat, 21, of 37149 Peralta Blvd., was arrested after a high speed chase in a white 1959 Chevrolet Impala that reached 80 mph on Fremont Boulevard near Eggers Drive. The car struck a fence, veered onto Parish Avenue, then hit a hedge and tree, and stopped after a 102 foot skid. He was booked for reckless driving and drunk driving.
Edward Beinkampen 79 died Friday in Huntington Beach. Mass will be at St. Leonard's Church Fremont at 1 p.m. Roses Mortuary will handle arrangements. A massive blast struck the five story Gothic administration building at the University of Saboteurs in Seattle, tearing through the first floor and shattering windows blocks away.
