Supervisors OK 269.5 Million Budget With Scrapped Arts Grants
The board approved a 269.5 million budget and cut requests from Oakland and San Leandro Symphony orchestras, the Oakland Metropolitan Ballet, Veterans Day Committee, National Safety Council and junior chambers of commerce. They conditionally approved 40 thousand if Short-Doyle funding becomes available. Health Care Services Agency backed 26 thousand for psychiatric day treatment and rehab. Castro Valley fire district kept tax rate under one dollar by limiting land-purchase reserves to 20 thousand and approving hydrants at 1.5 thousand. District commissioners had proposed 10 thousand a year for a new fire station and three new firemen, which would have raised the rate to about two dollars.
