Ohlone College Commencement Plans in Palm Circle Garden
Ohlone College will hold its commencement Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Edmison lawn area of the Palm Circle Garden Fremont. The event features student speaker Dorian Hostetler, outgoing President Lyle Nes, and will include faculty and campus choirs.159 graduates, including ten evening students, will receive diplomas with several honored for high grades above 3.4. The ceremony will be followed by a reception honoring the District Board of Trustees and graduates. The program includes the Chamber Band directed by Gary Loren Smith and the Macrgal Singers conducted by John Tawner.

Breakthrough Talks Sought in Coachella Grape Pickers Dispute
In California’s Coachella Valley a major breakthrough is sought to end a table grape boycott that has disrupted shipment from growers to consumers. Growers group leaders say they are ready to meet in good faith with the United Farm Workers and the bargaining committee headed by Cesar Chavez to resolve the stalemate and restore normal market flow. A federal mediation service in Washington was asked to convene an immediate meeting to restart negotiations.
