Planning commission approves basic needs for nursery housing
After three hours of deliberation and witness testimony, Fremont planners approve the basic requirements for the California Nursery project by Singer Housing Co. to build 475 units on a six acre site off Niles Boulevard while preserving 21 acres of open space. Residents fear water limits and traffic, CAN backs open space yet seeks full staff reports on water, parking, trees, and access before final approval.

Fremont urged to give cost of living raise to nonteaching staff
Fremont Unified School District should grant the same cost-of-living salary increase for its 700 nonteaching employees in 1971 72 as teachers and pay the full cost of health insurance for nonteaching staff, the district personnel commission recommends. The board has not acted. the budget contains no funds for such increases. Fully paid health insurance would add about 54000 to the current 100000 annual cost, with 85 percent of single cover and six percent of family policies already paid by the district.
