Newark council will hear reports on a Street Youth Center fire relocation plan and a 50‑unit leased housing program, plus citizen questionnaire results guiding city services. Also on the agenda are lake shore park boating regulations with a $3 permit fee and rezoning 15 Thornton Avenue lots, plus Newark Industrial Day details.
Obituaries note the deaths of Hattie M. Bordenave 79 in a Fremont convalescent home and Patricia H. Keller 42 in a Hayward hospital. Services for both are at Corpus Christi Church Fremont with arrangements through Fremont Chapel of the Roses Mortuary. Bordenave’s survivors include daughter Helen Borges and grandchildren, with entombment at St Augustine Cemetery Pleasanton. Sacramento toll bridge authority will discuss design options. June selections favored a red-arch design while chief engineer R Foley and architect Steve Allen proposed a tall tower concept. The meeting invites further evidence or opinions to inform this transportation agency decision.
Public Employees Union Local 1 and California School Employees Association Chapter 24 awarded scholarships to Fremont Unified School District graduates. Fremont Planning Commission will hear two redevelopment applications tonight. Dan Bodily seeks an apartment complex on Paseo Padre Parkway near Peralta Boulevard as part of a 88 acre planned district. Jack Brooks proposes 46 multifamily units and 20 single family homes on 12.75 acres off Fremont Boulevard between Nicole Avenue and Gibraltar Drive with a tentative tract map for 3.8 acres on Fremont Boulevard near Tamayo Street. The commission also weighs a retail nursery operation on Decoto Road and a tentative use permit for a sushi eatery on a 7.5 acre parcel near the Central Business District, plus a temporary office facility for Brad Rick Homes on Fremont Boulevard east of Beacon Avenue.
Parkmont residents scored a partial win after a three hour council session. The council upheld their appeal of a planning commission decision and ordered Dan Bodily to install a six foot masonry wall with mature trees and shrubs along Country Drive and Paseo Padre Parkway to preserve privacy for adjacent residents. They rejected the substitution of wooden car ports and four foot high screens atop some car ports but approved the quality development plan for an 850 acre quarry area along Alameda Creek with a future parkway plan pending rehabilitation details. Council urged Bodily to work with residents on alternatives and warned of a future return if an agreement could not be reached.
