Fremont groundbreaking marks start of $6.3 million courthouse
VIPs led a ceremonial shovelful at Paseo Fadre Parkway and Wall Avenue as construction crews continue work on the $63 million county courthouse in Fremont. Mayor Gene Rhodes and officials praised Mortis Houpingarner, foreman for Johnson and Mape of Palo Alto, for driving the project. The two-story courthouse will house eight municipal courtrooms, with space for the clerk, public defender, district attorney and sheriff personnel. Initial plans include five trial courtrooms and one arraignment room, plus future offices for the probation department and a potential eight to 15 year later county services building.
