BART chief outlines new report on system gains and goals
Oakland officials presented a data heavy briefing showing BART carries 26 percent of Bay Area crossbay traffic with 140000 daily riders a 2.99 percent rise. GM Frank Herringer highlighted more cars in service, reduced breakdowns, and a plan to expand feeder buses and resignaling to enable Daly City Richmond service and weekend/holiday runs. He cited a 55 percent rise in operable cars since last year and a 378 cars in daily use, aiming for 6 percent growth this year and a $4 million grant request for resignaling. The report notes equity gaps, with 17 percent of riders from low income groups and 2 percent minorities, and 65 percent own cars now avoiding freeways by using BART.
