East Bay park district trims budget for 1971 72

The East Bay Regional Park District released an 8.6 million proposed budget for 1971 72 with no money for new land in Southern Alameda County and minimal funds for improvements in Alameda County. General manager Richard Trudeau called the package stringent and said most revenue would fund operating and maintaining existing lands. The district plans to rely on federal and state grants and user fees for new land acquisition and capital development. Public hearings are set for Aug 10 after a July 3 work session.

Washington sources say the Senate Foreign Relations Committee is allotted 100000 to conduct its own inquiry into the origins of the Vietnam War. The action signals a formal fresh look by the committee chaired by a prominent senator and involving several key aides. The allocation appears as part of broader congressional oversight initiatives this session.
