Lance to meet sale deadline amid bank stake pressure
Washington budget director Ret Lance, a millionaire, pledged before a Senate committee to sell about 191000 shares of the National Bank of Georgia by year end. He said he would honor the commitment if the Government Operations Committee enforces it, avoiding a financial loss. Lance borrowed $27 million to help acquire Stack in 1975, but stock value has dropped as NHG reports a second quarter loss of $14.15 million versus a $795000 profit a year earlier.

Energy plan touted as lifesaver amid pollution death estimates
Brookhaven National Laboratory scientists say President Carter's energy program could cut deaths from pollutants by 20 million a year in 1945 but caution the calculations are highly uncertain. They note a preliminary Brookhaven model projects 21 thousand premature deaths in 1975 for the region east of the Mississippi, with a possible range from zero to 50 thousand. The White House warns results are preliminary and unreviewed.
