Kidnapped colonel released in Beirut after abduction
Colonel Emel A. Morgan of Petersburg Virginia was freed unharmed in Beirut after three hours of confinement by Palestinian guerrillas. He denied being a spy, praised Palestinian hospitality, and thanked U.S. and Lebanese authorities as he prepared to depart Beirut with American officials. The release followed a secret rendezvous in Ashrafiyeh and a handover to Sheikh Abdel Latif Ziyadeh before being taken to Rashid Karami's residence.
