Forest fire burns over 500 acres in Wyoming
A UPI report from Dubois Wyoming says a forest fire in Shoshone National Forest spread across more than 500 acres of rugged terrain in the Glacier Primitive Area 24 miles south of Dubois. Spokesman Gennis Kenton said campers near Hidden Cake sparked the blaze. Firefighters from the Forest Service and Wind River Reservation battled the fire with a slurry bomber and about five crews, aiming to contain it to its current size rather than extinguish it immediately. Officials could not estimate when control would be achieved.

More wells drilled this year in the United States
The Denver based Petroleum Information Corporation reported that 17 percent more wells were drilled in the United States in the first six months of the year than in the same period of 1975. Texas led with 76 wells, followed by Oklahoma 2,051, Kansas 1,844, Louisiana 82, California 502, and Wyoming 498, with 19,967 wells overall.
