Alameda Board expands status of women commission

Alameda County Supervisors vote 4 to 1 to expand the 15 member Commission on Status of Women by adding one Human Relations Commission member and one Mayors Conference representative both voting members. Dissenting Supervisor Bates preferred both additions come from human relations. Conference appointee urged for direct city communication. A second reading will finalize the law in 30 days. The trial of Symbionese Liberation Army members Remiro and Little in Oakland is projected to cost Alameda County about 650000, with costs offset by state reimbursement only if exceeding 3 cents on the county tax rate. County Administrator Jorn Ernch says the Litt Remiro trial will raise the rate by about 2 cents.
