BART Chief backs report findings on maintenance and planning

Bay Area Rapid Transit District acting general manager Travis Dahms endorses most findings of the state Senate study. The 142 page report urges delaying expansion until car maintenance meets standards and suggests mothballing unreliable trains, with replacements from a smaller, reliable fleet. Dahms cites parts shortages and implementation challenges, noting recent leadership changes under Keith Bernard improve planning, but effects may not be felt until fall.

The move aims to spur demand as U.S. auto sales decline and supports workers affected by layoffs.
