Thirteen Massacred in Montreal Club Gargantua Fire
In Montreal at Club Gargantua in the north end a mass killing left thirteen dead. Police call it a gangland revenge murder or possible personal vendetta, with victims found amid beer cases in a stockroom after a fire. One victim was club manager Regent Fortin aged 48, his wife also among the dead. others ranged from 19 to 48, all from the Montreal area. Fire officials say some victims suffocated in minutes as a heavy jukebox blocked the door, with a possible gunshot wound noted on Fortin. The wreckage marks Canada's worst mass murder since 1972 Bluebird Cafe fire. Authorities say some victims were known to police but refused to release records. Neighbors reported no prior disturbances before the blaze at 12:27 a.m. The investigation centers on the bar’s gangland reputation and a fierce feud among local hoodlums.
