HEW Plans to Cut California Welfare Funds
The Health Education and Welfare Department plans to cut up to 500 million dollars in federal welfare funds to California for alleged noncompliance with regulations. California could delay the cutoff by court action or by changing its regulations. The move would affect AFDC funds totaling 684 million dollars to the state. If implemented, other states could face similar actions.
