East Bay Builders Lead Growth in 1971 Housing Market
East Bay builders and construction firms reported their strongest year since 1963, finishing with about 224000 conventional housing units in 1971. Alameda County accounted for 7235 single family homes, with five-county totals exceeding 37000 amid a robust regional economy. A 1972 forecast warned of a slight 10 percent drop to around 22000 units in the East Bay.
