Bay Meadows to Run Five-Day Week Races
Bay Meadows will revert to a Tuesday through Saturday schedule for the winter harness season due to a shortage of raceable horses. Despite a 12 percent rise over last year’s meet, only 24 horses are ready to race, with about 100 more expected next week from Denver. Dr. William J. Ward said running six days would dilute racing quality, and the move aligns with the Western Standardbred and Drivers’ associations. San Jose Claiming Handicap worth 5500 tops tonight’s nine-race card amid strong field attractions and recent track champions.
