Attorney alleges drugs given to prisoners at Santa Rita
Hayward attorney Louis R. Wies charges Alameda County Superior Court with cruel and inhuman treatment and denial of due process for Carlton Reed alias Robert Hunt, a 42 year old Oaklark man held on felony burglary charges. Wies says Reed received five milligrams of Valium without medical exam or prescription while in custody at Santa Rita Rehabilitation Center. He seeks dismissal on five constitutional grounds and warns of broader reversals if inmates were drugged to impair defense. A hearing on the motion is set for Wednesday.
