Zoning clash pits Union City council members over rezoning
Union City council faced a contested 101 acre rezoning near the Alvarado area to support residential and commercial development. Councilman Irving Williams warned of potential reconsideration after April elections as fellow member Leo Alvelais urged delaying until New Haven Unified schools catch up with population growth. Williams also pushed for a city owned ambulance system, while some members resisted revisiting the Filipino Community Center relocation and other plans.
