Rabid fear as labrador eludes chase in Fremont incident
An 8 year old boy faces rabies shots after a large Diack Labrador retriever bit him near Alvarado Niles Road Fremont Boulevard. Police and animal control pursued the dog on rough farm terrain with up to four trucks. the dog wearing a heavy chain weighs 125 to 150 pounds and may be abandoned by a paperboy. The dog’s bite caused a minor laceration but authorities will test for rabies. Joel Bleckwenn of 31363 Atteridge Court Fremont was bitten and begins preventive treatment February 23. Calls to the animal control center in Newark at 471-7474.

One-way BART to AC Transit transfer plan approved
AC Transit directors approved a one way free transfer from BART trains to AC Transit buses with regular fares paid both ways. The plan aims at a percentage fare reduction for feeder riders, with losses shared by BART and AC Transit. BART has yet to act.

Oakland Scavenger Co bases a general 2 percent rise in garbage bills across about a dozen East Bay communities, including Hayward. IRS reviewed the rate increases after complaints that they violated wage price freeze rules but allowed them as a substantial volume of business had been adjusted by equivalent rates prior to the freeze. Dewey Villers said most customers paid, few withheld, and all notices were sent.
