Big Lift water project nears reality in California
Sacramento reports the four stage massive California Water Project will place Northern California water on an epic route through the Tehachapi mountains to Southern California. Engineers describe the Tehachapis as quake prone, with safety designs relying on surface crossings and fault avoidance. The Edmonston Pumping Plant will lift about 31,000 gallons per second up to 1,925 feet, with 14 pump assemblies moving 4,100 cubic feet per second in total. The project aims to supply water to San Bernardino Riverside and further south to San Diego County, while facing critics who doubt its fate.
