A reader explains why glass pinging sounds occur and cautions about lead content affecting resonance. The piece traces nutcracker origins to wooden designs in the 1600s, then steel and iron varieties, and notes a dog-nutcracker from the 19th century. It discusses Tiffany buckles and reproductions, plus a Hitchcock chair book and do it yourself refinishing guidance from Kovels.
