Supervisors Delay Fairmont Mental Health Plan Reassessment

At the urging of the mental health and criminal justice planning committee, supervisors will not implement the program without a thorough review of the committee questions and a resolution of future financing. Alyce J. Loveless of Livermore chairs the panel, noting the $572,720-a-year program is costly and questions its cost effectiveness and who will pay after grants end. The board will revisit the Fairmont project at an April 1 evening session while discussing other mental health initiatives. It approved a $70,489 four month alcoholism recovery home contract in Oakland through March 31 and rent through May 31, operated by Alcoholic Foundation Research Center, Inc., a Street Drinker program contractor. The board also passed a commendation for Woodrow Hammons after two years heading the county alcohol advisory board.
