Man seeks $600,000 in federal suit after six years wrongfully jailed
Ralph Fong, 46, formerly a Fairfield real estate broker, filed a federal suit in San Francisco seeking $600,000 for six years he spent in Mexican prison. He says a court later ruled his imprisonment a gross miscarriage of justice and vows a cross border recovery with help from his San Francisco attorney against Banco Internacional, the bank he says misled authorities. Fong details life in a Mexico City jail, a Mexican wife who aided him, and his prior U.S. business holdings while asserting innocence and preparing further legal action.

Christmas storm hits West and Northwest forecast heavy snow
A sweeping Christmas week storm blanketed the West and Northwest with heavy snow and gusty winds. Washington saw more than 10 inches and traffic jams on the Seattle area freeway. Three killed and three injured when a plane crashed after takeoff in Seattle's snow. Power outages lasting hours, Lake Washington Bridge traffic snarls, and multiple regional disruptions followed. Farther south, record warmth persisted in Florida while Alaska vessel risks and Coast Guard efforts continued against a disabled 487-foot logging ship near Adak. National Weather Service warned intensifying snow across the northern Idaho region and the Sierra Nevada.
