Mondale calls for Nixon to release Vietnam reports
Sen. Walter Mondale urged President Nixon to publish Thompson’s guerrilla warfare analysis and CIA findings showing Viet Cong strength and deep Communist infiltration in South Vietnam. He said the reports challenge pacification and Vietnamization promises and warn against premature troop withdrawal. Thompson in London cited cautious optimism yet warned Viet Cong could still topple Saigon.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy accuses the government of hiding the true number and condition of South Vietnamese civilians affected by the war. He cites a GAO report showing official stats are understated and many casualties go uncounted, with 1.3 million estimated by a Senate panel but only 245,715 recorded since 1965.
