City creates fund for offshore drilling study
Los Angeles officials established a dedicated fund Tuesday for a 1.0 page environmental impact statement on federal offshore drilling plans. Dr. Hi William Menard of UC Scripps Institute will lead the study, with a projected cost between 45000 and 90000 dollars and funds pledged by nearby cities and counties. The review targets the California coast portion proposed for lease to oil companies, covering 1.6 to 2 million acres.
