Go ahead on BI bomber expected
Washington reports the Ford administration will proceed with the BI bomber program with a funding plan that gives Carter time to decide on full production. Contracts worth 74.9 million were let for initial production models and long lead items, with the spending limit and tooling costs placed under options to be decided after September. Carter, in Plains, Ga, has not decided and prefers to wait until in the White House, while defense officials briefed him before the public announcement. Senators Proxmire and Culver criticized the move as undermining the new president and delaying weapon decisions that could fund other programs.
