Amur Farm prices drop signals spring rebound
The Amur Farm price decline marks the sharpest season drop in years with prices 6 percent below 1975 figures. Officials say farmers will cut output as profits shrink, while cost-of-living comparisons show farm parity slipping to 66 percent of October. Raw commodity prices fall on grains cattle and citrus, though higher egg and soy prices offset some losses. A near record Soviet grain harvest limits overseas sales, and retail food prices are expected to rise modestly in 1977 despite lower cattle production. UPI report notes farm price trends are rough guides for consumer prices and may not predict immediate changes. Agriculture Department foresees stable winter retail food prices and forecasts 1977 inflation around 104 percent above this year. END.
