Tricia Nixon entered Waller Reed Army Medical Center in California suffering abdominal pains suspected as appendicitis. By midday she was described as about 50 percent better, with tests normal and no fever or increased pulse, resting comfortably under Dr. Stanley Bear’s care.
Mrs Maxine E Coste 34 was arrested on assault with intent to kill after her husband Bernard Coste 26 reported she fired four shots from a .22 pistol at their home 469 Cahill St in Fremont. She claimed the bullets were fired inside and in the driveway as he fled. She was held at Santa Rita jail in bail of 20000. Michael Panaritas 17 and Kent Anderson 18 were treated after a separate incident at nearby locations. Both in fair condition at Fairmont Hospital.
Police report two youths in Fremont were forced from a moving white car yesterday after allegedly using narcotics. The first was dumped near Allen Park around 1:30 p.m. and the second near Oliviera School on Alder Street about 20 minutes later. Authorities search for the driver of the white vehicle seen on Mattos Drive, suspected in both incidents.
In Alameda County July building permits totaled 25.901 million, rising from June and July 1968 figures. Fremont issued 3.249 million in July, Newark 0.147 million, Union City 1.187 million, with new housing units in Fremont at 2.854 million and Union City at 0.907 million. Local totals show July gains over prior months and 1968 comparisons.
Newark residents Richard Baker and his wife Carol were injured when his car was struck by a train at the Southern Pacific crossing on Jon Spruce Street. Richard, 23, was in critical condition at O'Connor Hospital San Jose, and Carol, 17, in fair condition at Washington Hospital Fremont after being extricated from the wreckage.
Despite discussion of changes the Fremont junior and senior high schools will keep the dress code unchanged as the new school year opens. The district dress code committee will reconvene in the fall to consider possible changes but none have been made so far. The rules cover hair modesty for boys, no longer than collar, clean shaven, Bermuda shorts allowed, no cutoffs, shoes with socks, thongs not allowed. For girls slacks and shorts are permitted at events but not during school hours, makeup allowed in moderation, skirts must allow movement and be within three inches of knee, undergarments hidden, culottes and pant-dresses acceptable at regular skirt length, bare feet discouraged, sandals allowed with back straps.
The Daily Review publishes a public notice from the Superior Court of the Shea Calton for Fremont California. The notice lists a matter under the Act of Congress dated March 3 IG T and requests all communications to 122 Canter Square Fremont California. Washington reports the Federal Home Loan Bank Board notes higher borrowing costs for new and existing homes in July. Mortgage rates rose to 7.9 percent for new homes and 7.95 percent for existing homes as funds on deposit fell by 1.07 billion. Savings and loan associations faced scarce funds and a July loss that exceeded 1968. Preston Marlin comments that the situation could worsen before improving.
Westfab Manufacturing Co and Local 1518 IAM ask Superior Court Judge Folger Emerson to reduce the current picket line from eight to a lower number at 8700 Stevenson Blvd Fremont. An injunction issued July 7 barred plant entrances and limited pickets to eight. Judge Willian Brailsford later cited three pickets for contempt of court. Clarence Chiders AP Perez and Robert Ward received suspended five day jail terms.

A $220,134 contract for construction of underground storm drain systems in Newark was awarded yesterday by the board of supervisors to Silva's Pipeline, Inc. of Hayward. The Hayward firm submitted the low bid from six bids reviewed by the purchasing agent. Bids ranged up to $257,424. engineers estimated costs at $248,000. The contract covers 9,100 feet of reinforced concrete pipe along Thornton Avenue.
Funeral services for James H. Spence aged 39 who died yesterday in a Livermore hospital will be held at Chapel of the Roses Mortuary Fremont at 2 PM tomorrow. He leaves a wife Willie Spence of Fremont three sons James W Spence Wayne and Mitchell DeRossett of Alameda three daughters Julia H Spence Peggy DeRossett Carolyn Mollet two brothers Henry E Smith Norman Tyler two sisters Callie Mae Marshall Juanita Cook and four grandchildren Burial will be in Chapel of the Chimes Cemetery Hayward.
Fremont Unified School District bus drivers attend a full day safety orientation at the transportation center on Grimmer Boulevard and Durham Road from 8 30 to 11 00 a m. CHP officers and other speakers address the new year before a June trip to Concord to hear safety expert Raymond Martines of the National Safety Council and view safety films. New Haven Unified drivers are invited to attend.
