Forecast for San Francisco Bay Area through Tuesday shows fog and ocean night and morning clouds with little temperature change. Westerly winds 12 to 25 mph afternoons along the coast inland. Sierra Nevada, San Joaquin Valley see scattered thunderstorms cooling modestly by Tuesday.
Three astronauts leaving isolation at the Lunar Receiving Laboratory in Atlanta greet officials and family after a quarantine delay. They, along with 20 others, must submit detailed medical reports for a year to ensure no lunar germs pose a risk to Earth.
Two Fremont residents were injured in a two car head on collision at about 2:30 a.m. on Peralta Boulevard east of Mission Boulevard. Kristi Kith, 20, was hospitalized with multiple fractures in Washington Hospital. Raul L. Vera, 25, sustained minor injuries and was treated and released. Donald K. Hromsey, 21, of Livermore, the westbound driver, and Vera said a car came from the opposite direction, making avoidance impossible.

U S forces report multiple engagements south of the DMZ near the Laotian border and near the Cambodian border. In two firefights near Hue, 101st Airborne suffered five killed and nine wounded, claiming 12 enemy dead. An 11th Armored Cavalry engagement northwest of Saigon left 31 Communist dead with five Americans wounded. Marine camps south of the DMZ faced a 200-man assault at Con Thien with heavy hand to hand fighting as Marines repelled attackers using bayonets and rifle butts amid rocket fire.
Obituary notes the death of Mrs. Minton aged 88 from Alameda. Survivors include John G. Minton of Kentfield and William F. Minton of San Francisco, three daughters, a sister, 18 grandchildren, four great grandchildren. Requiem Mass at St Joseph's Fremont at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. An Alameda man, 47 year old Jack C. Smith, died after his disabled sports car on the Nimitz Freeway in Oakland was struck by a 22 year old Fremont driver, Richard K. Corbett. The crash occurred when Smith swerved to avoid a stalled truck, spinning into the center divider a mile north of the 7th Street off ramp. He died at Highland Hospital at 4:23 a.m. Saturday.
Veterans reported at Santa Rita Prison describe a crackdown on detainees including a U S mailman, a resident psychiatrist, divinity students and medical observers. Prisoners say guards used a blackjack and forced them to kneel, with beatings and restricted contact. Bail arrangements were later attempted but many forms were destroyed.
Inwood New York four people died after a stolen car rammed three autos and their sedan burst into flames at a boulevard site. The victims were Burl Rifkind his wife Freya and their two daughters Lisa 11 and Dale 13. Police said all four perished when the car smashed into a station wagon then ignited. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as authorities processed arrestees and the post accident investigation began.
In San Francisco a priest recounted how a jail guard allegedly struck prisoners during a 13 story high fall attempt. George L. Millsbaugh, 33, was pulled to safety by guards and firemen after a boy was grabbed and a guard assaulted him with blows. Father Andrew Boeddeker said Millsbaugh told him he could not bring back his youth as breakfast was served at 3:30 am.
