Newark Enters Park in Statewide Competition
Newark entered its Community Park and center in a California environmental planning awards program. The city submitted a general plan map, park topographical map, master plan, 40 to 50 photos, and a concept explanation in the 20,000 to 50,000 population category. Inquest Sought in Kennedy Chappaquiddick Death
Dist. Atty. Edmund Dinis said he would seek a Dukes County inquest into the death of Mary Jo Kopechne after a car driven by Sen. Edward Kennedy plunged from a bridge into a salt water pond on Chappaquiddick Island. Union City Boy Drowns After Creek Bank Collapses
A 12-year-old Union City boy, Mickey Wayne Dumond, fell from a 264oat embankment into seven feet of Alameda Creek at Perry Road. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Hayward's St. Rose Hospital after neighbors and firemen performed CPR for 20 minutes. His brother Ricky, 12, and other playmates were at the scene. the family had sought a high fence to keep youngsters out of the area.
