New Federal Regulations Take Effect In Land Sale
Federal regulations designed to protect buyers in interstate land sales go into effect this Monday announced by HUD Secretary George Romney. The Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act requires developers of subdivisions with 40+ unimproved lots offered interstate to register and file complete statements. The rule aims to curb fraudulent land schemes nationwide and applies to rural and urban areas as well as foreign lands offered from within a state. HUD’s filing office in Washington, D.C. will accept initial filings and exemption opinions. Major changes cut filing fees from 600 to 250 dollars and allow state filing for four states. The exemption opinion fee drops from 500 to 100 dollars.
