Collecting Cans A Lifelong Crusade From Fremont
Fremont resident Jess Woodruff a 67 year old retired teacher has become a prolific beer can recycler. In four years he has hauled over 14 000 aluminum cans to Kaiser in Union City and last year delivered about 6 000 pounds of scrap for roughly 900 dollars. Kaiser staff note he often outpaces many recycling volunteers. Woodruff began collecting after seeing waste and doctor advice spurred him to walk more. He aims to beat his current record of 16 000 cans with an 18 000 can haul planned for a future trip.
