Nonlethal aid excludes Coca Cola for Mobutu request
The United States provides nonlethal aid to Zaire but excludes a Mobutu request for $60,000 worth of Coca Cola. A State Department official said the soft drinks could be loaded on a C130 to Kinshasa if Mobutu pays commercially, not from U.S. funds. Officials noted $13 million in military aid remains separate and cannot cover the cola.
