Eta Upsilon ESA Plans April Activities In Fremont
Eta Upsilon Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha outlines April events in Fremont and nearby areas. Meetings at Mrs. Ted Gardner’s home will feature Music of Many Lands and a Jewel Pin Ceremony for three members.scheduled trips include Bay Peninsula Regional Council in Vallejo and charity visits to Napa State Hospital Crestwood Convalescent Hospital and the American Cancer Society Free-Wheelers program. The chapter also donated funds to CHILD for a motor development stegel and prepares for Founders Day on May 8 at Hayward Meek Estate.

Elizabeth Bess Lowrie of Fremont, born 1880, is remembered as the last surviving member of a pioneer Alameda County family. She remains active, past 91, with lifelong work, teaching, church service, and a passion for photography, poetry, and button collecting.

Linda Stewart of Newark and Scott Oakman of Fremont united in a 2 o'clock ceremony at First Baptist Church of Fremont. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Stewart, wore white nylon organza, a peau d ange lace trim, and a mantilla veil with a cascade of white carnations. Matron of honor was her sister Mrs. Ben Pitts. The couple honeymooned in San Luis Obispo and plan to reside in Fremont. The bride, a Newark High School alumna, attends Ohlone College and works in accounting. the groom, a 1965 Sunset High School graduate, also attends Ohlone College and works for Southern Pacific Railroad.

Instructions describe making a crumb crust and apple filling. Mix margarine sugar and flour with a pastry blender then fold in chopped walnuts. Press half the crumbs into a spring form pan, fill with cinnamon flavored apples, top with remaining crumbs, bake at 425 degrees for 20 minutes, then 2 to 3 minutes more. Serves six to eight.
Fremont artist wins award at Santa Cruz art show
Jeanne Hertik of Fremont earned second prize in oils and acrylics at the 4st Annual Statewide Art Exhibition. Her painting Still Life with Green Apples is part of the free exhibit on display through May 1 at the Santa Cruz Art League Galleries 426 Broadway.
