Santa Anita to Open Season With Record $1 Million Purses

Arcadia and San Gabriel merchants welcomed Dr. Charles H. Strub's announcement of a winter racing program at Santa Anita beginning December 31. The season will feature the richest purses in racing history, drawing owners of top thoroughbreds from America, England, Australia and South America and boosting valley tourism and local commerce.

California Tracks Boost Stakes Purses to Lure Top Colts
