Garden thieves prowling Arcadia areas sparked alarms as Marshal Treen tracked and captured a prowler horse nicknamed Bill. The animal, corralled and fed for three days, was reclaimed by owner Morris Evans who paid $3 in pound expenses. Bill was returned and no longer prowls at night.

Aerial Fleet Set for Riverside Flight on Liberty Day

Theater proprietor requests jury trial after Sunday show arrest
Mrs Ruth Cassil owner of the Outpost theater in Arcadia Cal pleaded not guilty and asked for a jury trial after being arrested for operating the theater on Sunday contrary to a city ordinance. She said the guest list included balloon school men from Los Angeles, not a test case.

The Arcadia War Camp Community Service executive committee met to plan entertainments for soldiers stationed in Arcadia. W H Taylor elected chairman, with Mrs Emerson, Mrs Newhall, Mrs Millard and Miss Valmer as members. A dance chair and church cooperation head were chosen. A hostess house at Santa Anita and Fallingleaf avenues was arranged. A meeting at Arcadia city hall was set for next Monday to discuss overall plans. A school vaccination anecdote followed about a boy asking for the bandage on the sore arm to avoid schoolyard roughness.

The First Presbyterian Church hosts Ally Day Services on Sunday October 12 with a 10 am morning program including special music and Sunday school recitations. Soldiers at the Arcadia balloon school receive 50 square feet of sleeping space each to reduce crowding and limit spread of Spanish influenza. Ventilation, sun drying of bed clothing, and a gate station spraying noses and throats are new precautions. The disease is described as a specific infection with sudden onset and symptoms including severe headache chills back and leg pains fever and extreme fatigue.

Women Peel Tomatoes For Red Cross Relief In Monrovia Duarte
A Monrovia Duarte Red Cross volunteer group gathered at Monrovia City Hall and rode to El Monte to peel tomatoes under the Save Our Tomatoes effort. Workers earned small pay per bucket, with higher small sums noted for eight hours of continuous labor, and were told they might work next day stringing beans for a penny a pound.
