Speeding motorists face stricter enforcement as Arcadia judges, led by Judge Horlock, push for fines and trials. A county wide probe by the efficiency bureau and grand jury led to summonses for August 8, with several Los Angeles actors among those ordered to appear.

A 200 pound hog darted from the boulevard weeds at 9 30 p m and collided with Enos Corpes Ford turning it over. Miss Margaret Reed suffered a severe ankle laceration and may be crippled for life. Lieut Sherrin aided the injured and they were taken to the Corpe home in Arcadia.

Three Duarte boys agreed to pay $5.00 for six watermelons found split on the road near the Catholic church. Quiggle, the constable, intervened as dusk settled and the money was paid. A Jap gardener also settled for $5.09 related to the incident.
The city council extends the ordinance granting the P i Railway Company a franchise and right of way through Glen Fora to connect with San Dimas. The extension lasts after the war, allowing construction of the missing link without delays or hindrance.
A petition for special letters of administration for probate of the will and codicil was filed Friday by Frank Bryson public administrator. Harry R Stocker husband of Clara Baldwin Stocker left $150000 in separate property. Mrs Stocker challenges part of the estate while she receives the residue plus $50000 in bequests to relatives in the Kaat. The income from $12500 goes to niece Anna Stocker of Philadelphia. Another niece Ethel Langhorne Wester receives $12500, and a third niece Anna Wister Barclay gets $25000. Both nieces reside in Philadelphia.
Four Mexican boys were caught Saturday July 27 by City Marshal Treen taking watermelons and cutting vines in D. D. Coughran's Arcadian Acres patch. Samuel Rodrigues paid a $20 fine while Manuel Masson Alvin Ramarez and Frank Garcia were sent to the juvenile hall. Aid Society Meeting moved to Monday August 5 at 3 pm in the church. note time change.
A City Hall supper hosted by Arcadia volunteers raised 35 dollars with all meals donated. Mrs. Robert Burdette of Pasadena spoke on food conservation while Miss Laser of Santa Monica performed piano selections. Proceeds from the event were pure profit.
Chaffee Grocery and Market in Azusa closed on Saturday as stock and fixtures are removed. Most items will be sent to Colton for the company’s new store. Chaffee's opened in Azusa in 1912 as the town's first cash grocery.
Day classes resume in the government free navigation school in Los Angeles on Monday August 5 with Professor A Litchen in charge. Captain Charles W Saunders says the merchant marine needs officers for the bridge of ships to Pershing and twenty students are ready to enter. Applications may be made at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce by men with at least ten months sea experience and good health. The program shows inland men with sea experience are eager to serve Uncle Sam during the war.
Lieut Col Hensley has moved into his specially built bungalow at the army balloon school facing Santa Anita avenue. The grounds will be parked with gardens of flowers. He previously resided at the Hotel Maryland in Pasadena.
In Arcadia on Sunday evening the Liberty Praise service drew many soldiers and Monrovians. Rev L G Parker led a brief talk. Professor Kessler directed chorus singing. Miss Laser and Miss Anna Clark sang two numbers. The devotional was led by Mr Butterfield. Next week the service shifts to San Gabriel Valley Christian Endeavor societies. Mrs Anita Baldwin plans bamboo screening between pool and Santa Anita avenue, with spectators noting swimmers.
Cali fornia packers report navel yields at 25 to 65 percent of normal with Redlands and San Bernardino hardest hit. Arcadia Monrovia Duarte districts fare better and Duarte Monrovia exchanges estimate about 50 to 65 percent while Central California lags at around 25 percent.
Associate editor A L Wooldridge of the Journal joins the editorial staff of the Soldiers News to be published weekly in San Francisco. The paper, funded by California business leaders, will carry no ads or subscriptions and will send hometown news to California troops in Monrovia Arcadia and Duarte and beyond to Europe.
The Arcadia California Board of Trustees will convene in the City Hall Council Chamber on Monday August 11 1928 at 10 AM as a Board of Equalization and continue daily until Assessor returns are rectified. City Clerk and Ex-officio Assessor Ethel Grimes signs the notice.
