Red Cross Officers Elected at Local Branch Meeting
At the Friday meeting the local Red Cross elected Harry Metcalf president to succeed Dr. C A Billings and Frank E Cooke as secretary and treasurer succeeding O D Harris. Meetings will be at the church on Tuesdays and Thursdays, not at Mrs Billings home, as departments await naming. The society plans expanded activity and aims to grow membership. During the year Army hospitals rose from seven to sixty three, with beds increasing from 5 000 to 58 400 and 30 000 more beds planned.

New Interlocking Plant Opens in Arcadia
The Arcadia interlocking plant for Santa Fe Southern Pacific and Pacific Electric lines was commissioned Thursday and awaits state railroad commission inspection. It costs about 60000 and is among Southern California's most modern systems. It will stop all trains until accepted.
