GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY OF BOWDOIN COUPLEMr. and Mrs. Walter S. Douglass, Fifty Years Married on October 14, Observe EventMr. and Mrs. Walter S. Douglass celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home in Bowdoin on Oct. 14. The 11 children bom to the couple were all present for the occasion, as were almost all of their 26 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.The dining ioonv was decorated with gold crepe paper streamers, autumn leaves and yellow dahlias. Hanging from the ceiling over the dining room table was a gold circle bearing the words “Mother and Dad’s Golden Wedding Day.” Attached to that was a yellow and white basket containing 50 yellow and white roses, a gift from their youngest daughter, Mrs. Fred Douglass of Bow'doin. Under the basket on the table was the wedding cake, bearing 50 yellow candles. The cake was made by the oldest daughter, Mrs.! Hattie Wallace of Bath. A turkey dinner was served at noon.Mr. and Mrs. Douglass and their children were seated at the first table, and the other 44 wei’c seated at other tables. Mrs. Charles Douglass of East] Wilton and Mrs. Oscar Douglass of Lewiston, daughters-in-law. and Miss Christina Hanscom of Bath, a granddaughter, served the dinner.Mr. Douglass was born in Auburn on July 13, 1861, and Mrs. Douglass was born Jan. 21, 1861 In the same house in which they celebrated the golden wedding.Their children are Mrs. Hattie Wallace and Mrs. Amy Sanders of Bath, Mrs. Emily Chase of Bowdoinham, Charles Douglas of East Wilton, Mrs. Carrie Sheen of Bowdoin, Mrs. Nellie Cobb of Richmond Corner, Mrs. Lizzie Higgins and Miss Lula Douglass of ' Bowdoin, Oscar and Otis Douglass of Lewiston and Mrs. Fred Douglass of Bowdoin.One grandson, William Sanders of Bath, is in the CCC camp at Bar Harbor.
