Anita residents oppose city dump move to southeast lands
A protest meeting at Anita Church of Christ drew 100 to 130 residents opposing the citys purchase of a 1.5 acre Waddell tract for a sanitary landfill on the south side. Mayor Rich and council members discussed with protestors, who urged moving the dump elsewhere and questioned lack of notice. An additional meeting was scheduled for Friday evening with a five member committee.

The VFW and VFW Auxiliary sponsor Buddy Poppy Day in Anita this Saturday September 26. Poppies will be sold at the Anita Sale Barn Friday afternoon in the residential area Saturday morning and in the business district Saturday afternoon. Dale Mueller is Poppy Day chairman. Mrs William Claussen is in charge of sales assisted by Mrs Tommie Christensen and Mrs Henry Christensen. Proceeds aid disabled veterans and the widows and orphans of veterans. The Bartley Alff Post has about 1000 poppies to sell and asks public generosity to honor the dead by helping the living.
