A local blood drive at St Mary's parish hall invites volunteers to donate on Friday from 11 am to 4 pm. Donors are told no money is paid. the value is the personal act of helping others as blood is processed for newborns, patients with injuries, or those needing plasma and hospital care.
A roster of signups for the Lloodmobile shows numerous individuals listed by name from Mrs. Lester King to Jem Brown. The partial readable text includes many names with occasional typos and fragments, indicating a local community listing or event preparation.
Roy G. Aupperle and wife live on a farm south of Anita observing their 40th wedding anniversary. The couple, parents of eight daughters and three sons, were joined by family including Mrs. Thery Brown and others in a small community observance tied to their Aug. 20 wedding date.
Mr and Mrs Ronald Gill of Franklin welcomed a son Jeffrey Dane born August 28 weighing unknown pounds. Ronald Dittemore and wife announce their first child, a son Michael Pat, born at St Joseph Mo Hospital. Ann Dittemore, a North High teacher, plans to bring family home to Sorensen Apartments Wind Street this Sunday.
The Avita City Council authorized bonds to obtain five apparatus for the Anita Stay Bank project and a new fire truck ordered for summer delivery. Bonds mature November 1971 with nine principal payments of 1800 and a 500 annual interest, paid semi annually. The truck features a Ford chassis and General Safety Equipment Corp gear.
New non fiction titles available include Inside Europe Today by Ginther and The Longest Day by Ryan marking June 6 1944. Also Civil War Treasury by Borkin Leeds and Folklore of the Civil War. Additional works cover nature travel and youth fiction with varied authors and topics.
The calendar lists Methodist WSCS Gen meeting on Thursday September 7. Friday events include Bloodsmouse Haan fundraiser to 4 pay. St Marys Irish hall Lincoln hosts Homemakers tea hosted by Mrs Byron Harris. Flame Past Chiefs meet at Mrs Lloyd Harris home. Wednesday September 19 Berea Busy Bees meet at Mrs Bill Steele home.
Mass times at Anita and Wiota change this Sunday. Mass at 8 a.m. in Anita and 10 a.m. in Wiota. Early month pattern sets Sed and Sth Sundays at Wiota, with Anita on the opposite weeks.
Mr and Mrs Marion Miller and daughter Alice of Verdun France arrived last week to visit Mr and Mrs Harley Miller and their son James. The visitors will fly back to France soon after their stay.
Lena Wilkens of Mento was fined $3 and $3 costs for prohibited crossings. Roger Watson paid $10 and $43 costs for excessive speed in Jerry Redburn's justice of peace court here last week.
Mrs Worth Chastain suffered lacerations and bruises while at work in Denver Colorado He was hospitalized for a few days and is recovering.
Neunis Charles Miller age 18 of Massena dies in a two car collision at a rural intersection west of Massena. Miller, a 1900 graduate of Massena High School, disappeared after the crash. His family and funeral services are noted alongside the injuries to Jack Erickson 19 and Carply Bond 18 and their infant Gina Marie, currently hospitalized.
Hospital notices list several patients from Atlantic Memorial Hospital. Miss Louise Ditman was discharged after a week of tests. Karen Miller left after treatment for virus pneumonia. Gary and David Miller were discharged following a virus infection. A patient known as Mac Metheny was discharged. Earl Beaver was admitted for medical attention. William R Boaleker was discharged after tests and observation. Daniel Tay, four years old, was discharged after a brief stay. Harley Wise, formerly of Anita, remains hospitalized.
School administrators finalize a revised timetable for school buses with duplicate copies sent home. Buses will arrive later, between 8:45 and 8:40 am, with the town bus at 8:50 am. No elementary students should be on grounds before 8:30 am, and high school students require prior activity or study arrangements.
An August report shows 80 children read 30 items across the month. Top readers include Stoule 26, Steele 26, Afepleison 24, Parker 14, Thrown 12, Kroger 10, Krowllen 10, Ritter 10, reflecting a small community literacy tally.
Regular school elections will be held across the state this coming Monday September Candidates for two seats on the Anita Board of Education are Paul Marler the incumbent and Dr Paul Lesaine. In Cumberland Massena Dudley Ellen runs for one seat with John Yarger and Reemer Voss contesting a second. One member of the seven has a board duration. Wayne Placevis of Anita Viota and Cumberland Massena are on proposals. Seven directors would be elected at three districts in the Cumberland Mission are seven directors. Voting at Anita will be at the town library from 12 noon to 7 pm Monday.
News arrives of the sudden death of Mrs. Tena Hansen at Maywood, California. She with her family moved northwest of Anita, then on a farm northeast of Anita. Survived by daughters Willya and Esther, sister Mrs. Anna Mikkelsen of Allamahon, and a long list of relatives including the late Marinus Jensen and Mrs. Lawrence Christensen. Mrs Hansen visited here last November.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Johnson of the Grau Motel spent Stincay at Tingley to honor Ernest Johnson's mother Mrs. Amanda Johnson on her 87th birthday. They also visited Mrs. Toluvsen and Mrs. Arma Webb at the Green Nursing Home in Creston.
Coach Bert Adams reports 38 players out for football including six seniors, 12 juniors, two sophomores and 11 freshmen. Key backs Tee Leggs Dennis Sims and Paul Browneberger shine while Dennis Newell and Don Meteler duel for starter at back. Line play and tackles show room for improvement as injuries limit Leger and Gare Nichols. Season opener at Carson Macedonia in a week. Junior high coach Ken Kertens fields 22 players. night scrimmage Friday 7 9 30pm open to public. admission is a bar of soap to save on the budget.
Anita High School will have grades take a nine part battery called the Test of Educational Development this Thursday and Friday. The tests measure general educational development and how well students apply concepts to new situations. Results will be sent to the school within two weeks and discussed at the upcoming First Parent-Teacher Conference.
Daniel M. Sullivan, a teacher in the Active Community Schools, was chosen to join a University of Omaha in service institute for science and math teaching. He is among 60 Nebraska educators selected for courses in mathematics, chemistry, or biology, with full conference costs and travel paid.
Keith Lambertsen son of Mr and Mrs Vernon Lambertsen of Wiota left for Maryville Missouri to enroll at Northwestern Missouri Teachers College He is a 1961 graduate at the Anstaigh schemt and was salutatorian of his class
Martin Larsen 78 a well known retired farmer died Sunday Sept 1 by hanging. Born Jan 28 188 with United States in 1904, he moved to Audubon area and lived in Anita. Survived by wife six daughters three sons and many grandchildren. Funeral services held Monday at 11 am at Anita Moline Cross Lutheran Church with burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
PTA at Anind Elementary plans a year ahead with a membership drive. Parents will be contacted within two weeks to join. Dues 45 cents per member plus 25 cent fee. family membership for a year totals 15 dollars. Contact Mrs Gill Steele or bring dues to the Sept 2 meeting at 8 p.m. at Anita High School. A display posters a membership tree to show new enrollments.
Season football tickets go on sale Thursday at Fletcher's Gamble's store and Unity State Bank with adults paying 2.50 for five games. Gate price listed as 7.50. Student season tickets available at Mrs. Jean Gill's office for 1.50. No season tickets will be sold at the gate.
