A brass cannon weighing several hundred pounds, fired in celebration of Lincoln's first election and dumped in a twenty foot deep well during wartime, is sought for removal from an abandoned mill at Carlisle. Local residents W. P. Keeney and E. F. Chapman reported the find to Supt. B. F. Osborn of the Iowa State Pioneers association as police pursue a 33-year-old Chicago & North Western fireman for forging his father's name to a $1,200 check.

The National Association of Postoffice Clerks opened in Des Moines with welcome speeches from Governor B F Carroll and Mayor James R Hanna. Senator A B Cummins and Congressman Prouty spoke as delegates arrived. National officers including President C F Nelson and other leaders joined the gathering.
Governor Carroll President Urick of the State Federation of Labor State Labor Commissioner Van Duyn and Adjutant-General Logan met at the state house to discuss the Muscatine strike. They fear more trouble and seek a plan to restore industrial peace in the city.
