The July and August report shows 988 books loaned in July, up 281 from 1961, and 529 loans in August with strong adult and juvenile use. New best seller titles arrive monthly, and magazines are stocked. residents are urged to visit and borrow.

Mackrill Family Moves to Anita In Business Move

Max Mackrill relocated his family to Sorensen Apartments in Anita and began work at Long's Furniture on West Main. He previously worked in furniture and appliance businesses in Atlantic and Omaha. A former Anita High School graduate 1954, he replaces Clifford Fries who moved to Avoca earlier this summer.

Gus Hunter Former Anitan Passes Away in Texas

Gus Hunter 84 of Mission Texas and a former Anitan died Friday August 31 in a nursing home where he had lived three years. He worked in the blacksmith trade with his brother Bill Burkhart before moving to Texas in 1943. He is survived by two daughters Helen Boger and June Strasburger and a sister Mrs Clarence Palmer. Funeral services and burial were held in Mission Texas on Monday.

Ruth Van Aernam joins Bonnesen's as office assistant

Ruth Van Aernam began work at Bonnesen's Variety Store last week replacing Bonnie Davis who started September 1 as office assistant to Dr. G Osborne. Bud Legg returns to studies at Iowa State University enrolling for his sophomore year after a summer at the Tribune office.

Hospitalized men progress at Atlantic Memorial Hospital

Mike Lambertsen, a surgical patient, was discharged to recover at home after a hospital stay ending Aug 29. Corpus Christi’s John Burkhart, a former Anitan and Mrs. Joe Vetter’s brother, remains hospitalized and is slowly improving with expected discharge soon.

New Front for Golden Rule Department Store

On Main Street this week Hutchins and Kirk began work at the Golden Rule Department Store to install a new front. Mr and Mrs Garland White and two children of Ennis Texas visit her mother Mrs Katherine Wheatley and brother Leon. Also sister Mr and Mrs Van Harris and brothers Ralph Wheatley and Harold Wheatley and families of near Adair. Mrs White is the former Bernice Wheatley.

School Elections Slate for Monday Across State

School elections will be held statewide on Monday with polls open from noon to 7 pm. Anita voters go to the Ray building beside Cals TV. candidates include Walter Glynn and Randolph Kellaway for school director, incumbent Wayne Rich not seeking reelection. Ben McLuell seeks another term as district treasurer from July 1, 1963 to June 30, 1965. Wiota shows four contenders for two board seats Henry Egeerling Ed Mailander Millard Mailander Milo Rattenberg. incumbents Wedemeyer and Coomes not running. A two year treasurer race has no filings and will require write-ins. current treasurer is Kenneth Neary.

Anita Booster Club Plans Membership Drive

The Anita Booster club launches its annual membership drive this weekend with $2 memberships at Gamble's Store Krasne's Lantz Jensen Bob's Barber Shop Anita State Bank and Mrs Don Schaaf Wiota. The club will install additional bleachers at the football field this Sunday and continues filming home games and band performances to analyze player and group performances.

Mrs. Ivan Joens and her children left Wednesday for Germany to join their husband in service there. The family plans to live in Germany for the next three years, and Mrs. Joens is identified as the former Betty Karns, daughter of Albert Karns Sr.

Three Charges Against Al Fruend Tuesday

Town patrols filed OM VI resisting arrest and failure to yield duties against Al Fruend of Denver Colorado, formerly Anita, after a chase on Highway 90 near Anita. Fruend allegedly drove onto the wrong side, refused to exit the car, fought officers in Anita alley, and was subdued with help from Town Marshal Hans Christensen. He remained jailed in Cass County on bond failure.

Father of Mrs John Pearson Dies in Ames

G Watkins 52 of Griswold, father of Mrs Mary Ellen Pearson of Lees Summit Missouri and Mrs Martin Applegate of Ames, died Monday at Jennie Edmundson Hospital after a short illness. Survived by wife two daughters and four sisters. Last rites held Wednesday burial at Tabor cemetery.

Chapman Spots Mystery Man at Sinclair Station

Claude Chapman received five silver dollars and a silver dollar key chain after spotting the Gates Rubber Co Mystery Man who pulled into the Chapman Morgan Sinclair station. The man asked for an oil check and Claude noted a worn frayed fan belt and suggested replacement. The Mystery Man then disclosed his identity. Gates Co uses mystery cars to alert attendants to check belts and suggest replacements.

Tobias visit amid family illness reaches Des Moines aid

Mr and Mrs Clyde Tobias of Cheyenne Wyoming paid a Tuesday morning call on Miss Vara B Hook and were summoned to Stuart by the serious illness of his mother Mrs W J Tobias who is in Lutheran hospital Des Moines for care.

New Zealand Visitors Tour American West Coast

Mr and Mrs C.8 Peterson of Rotowa New Zealand are visiting his sisters Mrs Will Selinske and Mrs Harvey Turner and friends. They left New Zealand in late June spent weeks in Honolulu en route. They will visit Mrs Petersons sister in Los Angeles and depart the west coast for New Zealand in November. Peterson graduated Anita High School in 1921 and now runs his own travel business.

Curtis L. Clark 68 Brayton farmer died Friday morning after a 10 day Oakdale hospitalization. He married Mary Rourick in 1916 and they farmed near Brayton. Survived by his wife five daughters five sisters five brothers 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at St Peter and Pauls Atlantic with interment in Atlantic Catholic Cemetery.

Tom Chadwick begins training for paratroops
