Concerning Those Now in Service Mrs McFadden Reports Hope

Mrs Pearl McFadden received a War Department telegram stating her husband Elmer Lewis McFadden GM2c has been confined at Thailand since the cruiser Houston was sunk in 1942 off Java and is in good condition. A Des Moines Register inquiry followed about postcards from him and she learned he is listed as arriving in Calcutta. His return date to the states is unknown.

Harold Coe 2c Now Serving On USS Talita

Harold F. Coe of Anita is serving aboard the Navy supply ship USS Talita with the Service Force. On duty since Guadalcanal, the Talita has filled about 6,000 requisitions and delivered to 480 ships in 11 days at the Palau Islands. Also noted are medical discharge for Pvt Gordon Hansen, returns of Pvt James McDermott and Pvt Arthur Duff, and family updates from Anita and nearby communities.

Bert Reynolds learns death of nephew in Omaha crash

Mr and Mrs Bert Reynolds learned last week that their nephew Wayne C Reynolds was killed in a three car collision in Omaha. Wayne had just finished a month’s leave in Lewis and was en route to Hoboken to join his ship when the accident occurred. Funeral arrangements are pending word from his parents, Mr and Mrs Frank Reynolds.

SQUIRREL SEASON OPENS SEPTEMBER FIFTEENTH

Reports from conservation officers indicate a heavy squirrel population in timbered areas of the state, yet a shortage of acorns has caused squirrels to abandon some stands. The daily bag limit is 6 and the possession limit 12.

Turner named manager at Linke Garage Parts Dept

Maurice Turner of Anita has taken the position of manager of the Parts Department at Linke Garage in Atlantic and began work on Tuesday. He formerly worked for Shaffer and Son Garage in Anita for several years and will commute from Anita for now while the family stays there.

Friendly Circle Club Meeting At Dorsey Home

The Friendly Circle Club met Wednesday at Mrs. Wilbur Dorsey's home with 8 members and three visitors Mesdames L. L. Dorsey Eltan Christensen and Paul Powers. Mrs Powers is from Ruthven Town. The afternoon was social and contest winner was Mrs Andy Jessen. Next meeting set for September 12 at Mrs Andy Jessen's home.

Former resident Marilyn Winder weds William Cohee in Huntington Park

Mr and Mrs Arthur Winder of Guthrie Center and former Anita residents announce the marriage of their daughter Marilyn Marie to S Sgt William Cohee on Sunday August 19 at the Wedding Chapel in Huntington Park California. The couple will reside in Huntington Park. Miss Winder lived with her parents in this community during childhood.

Mrs. Guy Lattig of Boise Idaho visiting her mother and sister attended a covered dish picnic at her brother William Crawford’s Sunday evening. About thirty old friends joined in the gathering. Scrap Paper Drive To Be This Saturday

The Anita Boy Scout Troop will hold their first scrap paper drive in several weeks this Saturday. Be sure and have your waste paper magazines cardboard boxes etc on your front porch or sidewalk and have them well tied as it takes the boys most of the day to cover the town.

Ted Cooley bought the 80 acre farm four miles north and fourteen miles east of Anita that was owned by Carl Carlson. Arnold Griffin, renter, will move into the Ray Traynor farm northwest of Anita on March first. Miss Isabelle Shaffer departs Anita Thursday for Iowa City to begin her university studies.

Anita High Football Prospects Bright For Season

Anita High schools football team reports ten lettermen and twenty more players training daily for the opener against Adel on their field. Returning lettermen include Rasmussen Williamson McDermott Turner and Pollock with Roots and Livingston to fill back positions. Leading candidates for key roles are Highley Petersen and Darrow with a large squad listed. 264 Pupils Enrolled in Anita Public Schools

The Anita Public school enrollment stands at 264 pupils with 115 in the high school and 149 in the grade school. Grades include Kindergarten 19 First 26 Second 18 Third 10 Fourth 20 Fifth 18 Sixth 11 Seventh 11 and Eighth 21.
