Larry Behnken of Anita finished ninth in the Hawkeye International Championship 200 lap race at the Iowa State Fair earning 125 dollars after 183 laps. Varel Schmidt Massena placed tenth with 182 laps and 100 dollars. Mort Williams Rochester Minnesota won first prize of 750 dollars driving a 1958 Ford among 26 entrants.

Walker Rites Saturday Morning for Captain Walker

Behnken's captured the Anita mens Softball League title with a 20 14 win over Burke's last Wednesday. The game stayed tight with multiple tied scores as Behnken's rallied in the final frame to pull away. Don Fletcher went 5 for 5 for Burke's, while Kieh Neighbors and Gary Nelson led Behnken's offense. The season ended with Burke's and Behnken's tied 7 2 records, Krasne Mardesen third at 5 5, and Corner Boys 4 6 while Chapman Morgan and Hazzord each stood 3 7. An exhibition game was cancelled, officially ending the season.

The Ladies Aid of Holy Cross Lutheran church repainted the basement dining room and kitchen, refreshed Sunday school chairs and tables, and added new curtains.
