The Anita Community Chest fund drive begins Thursday October 10 with a workers meeting at St. Mary's Hall at 10 a.m. Residential chairmen and co chairmen Rex Iler and Raymond Vettes lead a large list of area chairs. The drive supports Salvation Army Boy Scouts Red Cross Cancer Heart Association and Children’s Diseases Arthritis and Rheumatism Town Children’s Home. The campaign stresses public generosity since the effort is eight drives in one year.

The Anita Community Schools PTA sponsors a benefit carnival at the school gym on Wednesday Oct 18 from 7 to 10 pm. About 15 stands will operate and a dunking booth by Mr and Mrs Bill Irker is planned. Cakes pies and other items will be available. a cake walk is led by John Rasmussen and Russ Morgans. Admission is a small door charge with activities offered. Mrs Larry Behnken is carnival chairman.

Services Held for Safe Morrison 77 in Earlham
Funeral services were held Monday at the Earlham Friends Church for Lafe E. Morrison 77 of Redfield formerly Anita. The Rev Willard Reynolds officiated with Helen Ludwett at the organ. Interment was in Stuart cemetery. Morrison born December 5 1885 near Anita, died September 28 after a long illness. Survived by wife Holda Cass Morrison three daughters Joan Morris Frances Coffman and Betty Dunmire a son Robert 18 grandchildren and 4 adopted grandchildren two sisters Dottie Reeves and Ada Smith a number of nieces and nephews. Attendance by local residents included Paul White Ada Smith Eva Baylor Glen Baylor Charles Parmley Dottie Reeves Gail Reeves and Dale Dennisen.

Gerald Bud Fowble a 44 year old Atlantic resident formerly of Anita was found walking dazed south of Anita by Idoyd Harris a local farmer. A school bus driver first saw him and arranged return after bus route. He was treated at a local clinic then moved to Atlantic Memorial Hospital. He suffered a fractured jaw and facial bruises and has been moved to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. The sheriff's office is investigating.
