Local notes recount Anita’s 1946 football season closing with a planned night game at Adair on Armistice Day Monday. Anita beat Dexter in coming schedule, Eldon Turner injured but expected back, Woodward defeat discussed, with criticism of refereeing and a tough away trip crowd.
The Waltz Studio of Des Moines will send a photographer to Anita on Friday November 1 from 2 to 8 p m to take family group or youngsters pictures free of charge. Prints may be ordered and published in this paper. Weather earlier prevented many from posing, prompting a return trip arrangement for next Friday. No appointment is needed.
Mrs Raymond Laartz hosted a Sunday afternoon reception near Anita for her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Raymond Vous spouse of the ceremony reports say. Guests included Mr and Mrs John Voss Dorothy Elmer Campen Michaels Schmidt Blattner J B McDermott Wray Joe H Laartz Nettie McMarry Remmer Voss Martin Wong and groom’s grandmother Mrs Monroe among others.
The Turner family from Temple City California and relatives from Manilla and Guthrie Center gathered near Anita Iowa for a long awaited reunion. Brothers A B Benn Bono and their kin attended with Myrée of Pine Ida not present. plans and travel details were discussed amid snowy conditions near Shata sora.
Mrs Wilbur Heckman Jr of near Adas suffered a burn Friday evening while preparing supper. She poured hot grease into a glass jar which cracked. In trying to save the grease from spilling she gripped the jar causing grease to burn her hand and arm up to the elbow. She returned to school in Adair Monday.
A group of relatives dined Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs Carl Millard honoring him on his birthday anniversary. Attending were Titose present cheride and hobteda and children Terk and Carolyn Land Mr and Mrs Boy Millard Kay Mr and Mrs Gene Millard Evelyn Mrs Ade Maggerd and Miss Bess Millard all of Creaton Town. Dr P T Williams local dentist attended the Omaha District Dental Society monthly meeting Tuesday evening.
A dinner party at Gerald Shoemaker’s home honored Mrs. Letha Coe on her birthday anniversary. The event featured a covered dish meal and greetings and gifts for the guest of honor.
Mrs. Raymond Voss formerly Miss Yvonne Laartz was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower at the Voss home in Massena on Saturday October 26. Hostesses were Miss Dorothy Voss Mrs Ross Michaels and Mrs Harvey Holster. The honoree received many useful gifts.
Mr and Mrs Glen Steinmer hosted a family birthday party at home on Sunday. Five attendees share birthdays within two weeks and included families of Harold Cooper, Robert Cooper Jr, Robert Cooper Jr of Adair, Albert Hubner kopf of Atlantic, and Glen Steinmetz.
Mrs Herbert Cooley of Anita announces the marriage of her daughter Delores to Paul Miller son of the late Henry Miller of Atlantic. The ceremony was at the Lutheran church parsonage in Hiaratha Kansas by Rev R W Scheffel last Saturday. Delores a 1945 Anita High School graduate and Thompsons Beauty School in Des Moines graduate. Paul a discharged Army Air Forces veteran from December after three years service and now employed at Atlantic Auto Exchange. They will reside in Atlantic.
Invited to attend a supper at Anita Hall on Armistice Day preceding the Anita Adair football game. Attendees should bring dishes, silverware, bread and butter sandwiches, and a covered dish for their family. A public dance at the K of P Hall with Monte Carlo Orchestra will follow in the evening, announced by Legion Commander Claude Smither.
Lincoln Linsolnette's 4 H Club met Wednesday evening at Patsy Livingston's home south of Anita with 20 members, two leaders Mrs. Thomas Bailey and Mrs. Lewis Woods, and three clients. New officers were installed as hostesses' mother Mrs. Carl Livingston served lunch. November meeting scheduled with Joy and Peway Maas.
Fourteen young people gathered Thursday night for a Halloween party at the Dove Home. The facility was decorated with Halloween motifs and young ladies served a standard Halloween lunch. The evening featured games and dancing.
Mrs lew Brindley was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower Wednesday evening October 30 at Mrs Don Inhofe’s Atlantic home. Hostesses Mrs Joe Vetter Jr Anita and Miss Jackie Freeman Atlantic arranged gifts hidden in balloons with poems guiding guests to each prize. A lunch followed. Other Anita guests included Mrs Thomas Brindley and two daughters. The Brindleys reside at Mrs James McCosh’s Locust Street home. Political notes: Republicans viewed as likely to hold Senate and presidency after Truman era remarks. Iowa results favored Blue over Miles by 96,488. Cass County Hospital Bond defeated by nearly two to one. Ben Jensen reelected congressman from the 7th district. Jay Colburn elected senator Cass Shelby District. Loyal Possed defeated W F Sandhorat for Supervisor from the First District. County officials all reelected unopposed.
Mrs Mable Dement and James Mc Cosh were united in marriage at Seneca Kansas on Wednesday October 30 at 2 00 pm The ceremony was performed in the Methodist parsonage by Rev S E Parker After a short trip the couple returned to Anita for their home on Chestnut Street
Sgt. Raymond Larsen of the 512d Airborne Antiaircraft Battalion in Japan is promoted to sergeant and serves as Supply Sgt. The Pythian Sisters meet in Mutoran with past chiefs presiding and a show by U S O. Mrs. Wayne Jewett is presented as part of the night’s program.
Raymond, son of Mrs. Cecil Denney, worked at the Maurice Shannon farm and as a truck driver before his induction into the army. The area features two stables of fine riding horses, a dock with several speed boats, and two sail boats.
